OUR STORY
History
As followers of Sri Aurobindo, you may be familiar with the name “Harpagon”; some of you might have even visited this well-known and once one of the foremost engineering departments of the Ashram. It was way back in 1937 that Harpagon begun its journey when the Mother felt the need of an engineering workshop to cater to the growing and often peculiar requirements of the various Ashram departments. Beginning with a small machine shop for making furniture, followed by a foundry and a smelting unit, then diversifying into stainless steel fabrication and some other production jobs, Harpagon eventually became the most recognized technical arm of the Ashram.
The Brand Now
However, now nearly 75 years after its inception, Harpagon has undergone many operational changes and assumed a new role to suit the different demands of the time. Books and photos of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother are the two most vital requirements of the present time. While their enlightening books enrich the mind with the knowledge of their unique Supramental realizations, the photos of the Masters are the only tangible medium that acts as direct conduit to their still living and reassuring presence.
In keeping with its great technical heritage, Harpagon has been entrusted with this work of bringing the photos of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother to their followers in beautifully crafted frames of various designs. Nearly all the photos brought out by the Ashram are available with Harpagon in different combinations of large, medium and small sizes.
